How silent yoga works: microphone, transmitter, headphones
It is as simple as a radio: the teacher speaks into a microphone, the transmitter sends voice and music to every headphone, the students listen. Here is what to know before your first class.
Three pieces, and you begin
Microphone
A light headset that leaves your hands free to demonstrate postures. It plugs into the transmitter.
Transmitter
It takes your voice from the microphone and music from your phone, via Bluetooth or cable, and sends both to every headphone on the same channel.
Headphones
Everyone picks a channel and a volume. The lights switch off when you need darkness.

What changes when everyone hears you up close
With speakers, the teacher’s voice has to beat the music, the room’s echo and the noise outside. Students near the speaker hear too much, those at the back too little, and the subtler cues get lost.
In headphones it works the other way round: your voice reaches everyone from the same distance, a few centimetres from the ear. You can speak softly, guide the breath calmly, lead a relaxation almost in a whisper. The music stays in the background instead of becoming a wall.
For students the result is a more intimate class, even in the middle of a park or a festival with hundreds of people.
A class, from arrival to goodbye
Switch on and hand out
Turn on the transmitter, check the channel and hand out the headphones at the entrance. It takes a few minutes, even for a large group.
A test hello
Ask everyone to put on their headphones and raise a hand if they can hear you: the moment to set the volume.
Voice and music together
You guide the sequences with your voice while the playlist runs underneath. Change track or lower the music and everyone hears it at the same instant.
Lights off, low voice
The headphone lights go off and the music fades. The final relaxation can be guided almost in a whisper.
Collect and charge
Collect the headphones, switch them off and put them on charge for the next class.
Channels, range and battery
Why 3 channels?
For yoga they are plenty: one channel for one class, three for three classes, three teachers or three DJs in the same space. Students switch channels with one button.
How far does it reach?
Portable transmitters reach up to 300 metres and fixed ones up to 400, in open spaces without obstacles. Thick walls and different floors reduce the range.
How long does the battery last?
The headphones last up to 10–14 hours depending on model and volume: more than a day of classes. The portable TX-330 runs for about 7 hours and charges in 3.
Do I need Wi-Fi?
No. The system works by radio frequency in the 863–865 MHz band: it does not depend on any network and your voice arrives in real time.
Which transmitter for the way you teach
The portable one follows you between the mats; the fixed one stays next to you or the mixer and covers larger areas.

About how it works
Do students need to know anything?
No: they switch on the headphones, choose the channel and set the volume. Show them once before you start.
Can I use my own microphone?
Usually yes, if its connector fits the transmitter input. Send us the model and we will check it beforehand.
What if a student walks away?
As long as they stay within the transmitter’s range they keep hearing you. For walking meditation or park routes, use a portable transmitter and keep it with you.
Can students still hear the room?
The headphones reduce noise but do not isolate completely: a raised voice can be heard. For a more absorbed listening we recommend the over-ear SX-839.
What if I need more than 3 channels?
For yoga it rarely happens. For other uses there are other Silentsystem® systems too: you can find them on silentsystem.com.
